Competition Rules

Anyone under age 42 can apply (born after 23 March 1978)
​
Application dates 1st of December 2019 - 6th of January 2020  
 
Documents needed for application: 

​

All Documents must be sent via the application form on this website.

​

1- CV / Copy of Valid Id / 300 dpi Photo 

​

2- Video links

​

Candidates may choose to apply for the pre-selection with 1 or 2 videos.

In any case, the total length of videos must be no more than 15 minutes.

With no audio edits or cuts can be from various angles.

​

Videos must be recorded in front of

 

1 Piano 4 hands  or

2 Pianos or

1 Piano with Strings Quintet or

Orchestra 

​

Videos must give good info about candidates' conducting qualities for the Pre Selection Jury.

​

Stages of The Competition

​

1- Online Pre-Selection Stage 7th - 20th of January 2020

​

The CV and Video election will be judged by Online Jury.

Please beware that the Videos are more important than the CV documents. 

 

The Members of the Online Pre Jury are Artistic Directors, Conductors, and Professors from different countries around the world such as the USA, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, China, Iran, and Turkey.

They do not know each other. For the objectivity and trustworthiness of the competition.

Names of online jury members will be declared after the first election of the competitors is complete on

21st of January 2020.

 

2- First Stage 3rd of April 2023 Monday at 10.00  

​

30-40 candidates will come to Adana/Turkey, at their own expense, for the 1st stage of the competition with a Live Orchestra and Jury in the Concert Hall of Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra.  

All Candidates will have 5-6 minutes with the orchestra and conduct all of the parts of the works as follows;

L.v. Beethoven - 5. Symphony 1st mov. 

W.A. Mozart - The Magic Flute Overture 

U.C. Erkin - Sinfonietta 3. mov. download   (until bar number 40)

G. Rossini - The Barber of Seville Overture

 

The results of the 1st stage will be declared latest at 20.00 on the same day

The jury will also choose by the draw which work will be conducted by which candidate for the 2nd stage

​

3- 2nd Stage 4th of April 2023 Tuesday at 10.00

​

15-20 candidates who passed the 1st stage will be ready to conduct at 10.00 in the hall. 

Each candidate will have 20 min. freely to rehearse with the Orchestra.

The works that will be chosen by drawn by the jury are below:

 

L.v. Beethoven - Egmont Overture

J. Strauss - The Bat Overture

G. Verdi - La Forza del Destino Overture

​

The results of 2nd stage will be announced by the jury latest at 19.00 on the same day

​

4 finalists will receive the score of Compulsory Work "Luqman e Gabriele" which is commissioned by the competition. 

The jury will also choose by drawing which candidate will conduct which work in the rehearsals and final concert. The list

of the works the finalists will conduct is below.

W.A. Mozart - Don Giovanni Overture

L. van Beethoven Coriolan Overture

G. Verdi - La Forza del Destino Overture

J. Strauss - The Bat Overture

4- Final Stage Rehearsals 5th-6th of April at 10.00 - 13.00

​

4 finalists will be chosen for the final stage. 25-26 march at 10.00-13.00

Each candidate will have 35 min. with the Orchestra to freely rehearse the works below:

Compulsory Work - Luqman e Gabriele

​

General Rehearsal 7th of April at 10.00 - 13.00

​

Each finalist will have approx. 35 min. with the Orchestra to freely rehearse the works 

​

Concert and Award Ceremony 7th March 19.00

​

Commissioned Compulsory work "Luqman e Gabriele" will be conducted by each finalist in the first part of the concert.

In the second part of the Concert Finalists will conduct one of the works chosen by the Jury.

After the concert Jury will have a short time to decide about the awards.

Declaration of the awards will be announced by the spokesman of the Jury at the end of the evening.

All contestants also will receive a Certificate of the Competition
